Team

Tom Sandell founded Sandell Asset Management Corp. in January 1998 and is the Chairman and CEO. He has been involved in the securities industry since May 1986. Mr. Sandell joined Bear Stearns in 1989 to establish the proprietary international risk arbitrage operation. When he left in 1997, he was a Senior Managing Director and co-head of the Risk Arbitrage department. Previously, Mr. Sandell worked as a securities analyst for Atlantic Finance in Paris from May 1986 to May 1987 and subsequently was head of equity research at Group Delphi in Paris. He received a BS in International Business Administration and Economics from Uppsala University (Sweden) and an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School.

Rick Ecklord joined Sandell Asset Management Corp. in 2001. Mr. Ecklord is a Senior Managing Director and Partner, with primary responsibility for trading and technology. From 2000 to 2001, Mr. Ecklord worked for Spear, Leeds & Kellogg / Goldman Sachs, Inc. as a trader. He worked for Renata Trading LLC, as an options trader in 2000. From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Ecklord worked for Sakura Dellshar, Inc. as a trader. He worked for McNamara Trading Inc., as a trader in 1996 to 1998 and with AIG Trading Group as an assistant trader in 1996. Mr. Ecklord graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 1995.

Anson Aguiar joined Sandell Re in 2018. Mr. Aguiar is responsible for the operation of the Bermuda office, including sourcing and underwriting reinsurance risks and defining and executing a profitable underwriting strategy. From 2007 to 2018, Mr. Aguiar worked for American International Group as an excess casualty underwriter in Bermuda, underwriting and managing a diverse book of Fortune 1000 accounts. Prior to that he worked as a reporting analyst for American International Group in New York. Mr. Aguiar graduated from St. John’s University in New York where he specialized in Risk Management and Insurance.

From December 2013 to 2015 Mr. Michael E. Morrill was a director for Ironshore Insurance co and chaired the Risk and Underwriting Committee. He served as a Vice President of AXIS Specialty U.S. Holdings, Inc. and AXIS Specialty U.S. Services, Inc. Mr. Morrill served as the Chief Executive Officer of AXIS Re U.S. of Axis Capital Holdings Ltd. from August 2002 until July 2011 and served as its President. Mr. Morrill has over 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. From 2001 to 2002, he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Gerling Global Reinsurance Corporation of America. From 1996 to 2001, he served as Chief Underwriting Officer for North America and Senior Vice President at Transatlantic Reinsurance Company. He has also held senior management and underwriting positions at Munich American Reinsurance Company, Cologne Reinsurance Company of America and Christiania General Insurance Company. Mr. Morrill served as Chairman of AXIS Reinsurance Company of Axis Capital Holdings Ltd. He served as the Deputy Chairman of AXIS Re Limited, Bermuda. He served as Director of AXIS Specialty U S Services Inc. and AXIS Specialty U S Holdings Inc. Mr. Morrill retired from AXIS June 30th, 2011.
